What’s new at Casa Loma?

Visitors to Toronto might be a little surprised to learn we have our very own castle in a city that’s relatively young, at just over 200 years old. Anyone that grew up here is already familiar with Casa Loma, the nearly 65,000 square foot 98 room mansion built by Sir Henry Pellatt in 1914 and located near Dupont Subway Station.  Residents might be surprised, however, to learn about all the new events happening at Casa Loma since it was taken over by the Liberty Entertainment Group two years ago. With Liberty’s reputation behind venues such as The Liberty Grand, Rosewater, and Spice Route, their aspirations to transform Casa Loma into a premier special event space should be no surprise to anyone.

Casa Loma remains open to the public daily from 9:30am – 5pm (entry is $24 for adults, $18 for youth/seniors, $14 for kids above 3 and free for under 3). However, if you’ve already visited the “house on the hill”, or if you want to make your first visit extra special, consider coming during one of their special events.  This summer is especially busy with events such as Symphony in the Gardens on Tuesdays until August 25th (grounds stay open until 10pm), Soul in the City on Mondays until July 27th (grounds stay open until 10pm), and Salsa Weekends until August 16th.  This past weekend I visited for A Culinary Celebration of Canada, a special $35 prix fixe brunch focused on local seasonal ingredients served in Casa Loma’s garden alongside live music.  A great way to spend an afternoon!
