Winterlicious can be hit or miss, so whenever I find a great spot, I spread the news far and wide! This year my favourite was the $28 lunch at Sassafraz. Located in the heart of charming Yorkville, Sassafraz has been a magnet for Toronto’s well-heeled crowd for many years. Gutted by a fire almost 10 years ago, the restaurant reemerged as a beautiful, bright and airy modern space. Below are some of the fantastic dishes we sampled….check out the ingredients and try not to drool, I dare you.
House Cured Organic BC Salmon
(golden beet fennel salad / toasted caraway / crispy dill /orange blossom yogurt)
Lovell Farms Organic Trout (roasted garlic mascarpone orzo / broccolini / pine nuts / lobster velouté)
Braised Ontario Beef Cheek
(parsnip chèvre purée / herbed cannellini bean / mustard greens /rosemary reduction)
Herb Roasted Ontario Cornish Hen
(squash sourdough stuffing / king oyster mushrooms / porcini velouté / macadamia nuts)
Chocolate Torte
(Baileys white chocolate ganache / cranberry caviar)
Ginger Frappé
(whipped caramel / Chantilly cream / crystallized apple / dark chocolate glaze)
Wow – it’s been 10 years already since Sassafraz burned down!! … then it’s been at least that long since I was last there.
I confess I have never taken advantage of the winterlicious or summerlicious events. hmmm – maybe I should put summerlicious on my 52 New Things list for this year 😉

Hard to believe, right?! This was my first time since the fire as well, and I have to say the place looks fantastic. I know it means having to go to the “west end”, but I think you should give it a try! 😉 Summerlicious is only 5 months away!

That looks amazing! I haven’t been here in years. I’ve oftentimes heard that the quality of food has gone down–but doesn’t look like it here. 🙂

Last time I was there was 10 years ago at least so I hardly remember what it used to look like but I can say that of the six of us, we were all very happy with our lunches!
