I visited the Shangri-La Hotel lobby bar at 188 University Ave for the first time on a recent Thursday night and I was very pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is serene and comfortable, while maintaining utmost elegance. A live three piece band and singer added to the entertainment provided by people watching. We loved sitting on the cozy sofa by the roaring fire and chatting while checking out the numerous interesting characters making their way through the lobby.
The experience does come at a cost, as the extensive drink list is not exactly cheap!
Our drinks included Baileys on ice ($12), a latte ($7) and a pot of tea ($15). Wine on the menu started at $17 per glass and champagne went as high as $90 per glass. Dessert in comparison was quite reasonable at $12, especially considering the quantity and flavour. Ours included strawberry ice cream, pistachio cake and basil macaroons. Amazing flavours all around!
Even though it’s on the expensive side, I highly recommend you treat yourself to an evening in the Shangri-La lobby bar if you are around the Financial District. This would make for a very impressive date or a nice way to wrap up a meal at the adjacent Momofuku restaurant complex.
