Lately I have been noticing there are great deals to be had in the Toronto restaurant scene. This is a nice little incentive to get out there, discover new places, eat really great food and save a few bucks. For all you wine lovers, here are my top recommendations for where to dine and drink every night of the week.
Utopia Cafe – 586 College St
Start the week off by the glass with $3 Hardy’s Shiraz or Chardonnay at this easy going Little Italy spot with a big back back patio and 20s-30s crowd. Bring a friend because burgers are buy one and get the second half price. Bonus, they have decent specials most other nights including $9 select beer pitchers on Wednesdays.
Bent – 777 Dundas St W
Susur Lee’s Asian fusion restaurant has some really nice tapas style dishes and a beautiful leafy side patio. Great for groups or to impress a date. Half price on most bottles of wine and sake (except for those also sold by the glass).
Lisa Marie – 638 Queen St W
Get half price bottles of wine and an ever changing menu (that always includes the much loved Pad Thai Fries) at the first bricks and mortar outpost of Fidel Gastro’s food truck. Bonus, they have bingo on Tuesdays so you know this is a fun place.
The Yukon – 1592 Queen St W
This little Parkdale hideaway bar offers half price on most of their bottles of wine by 10pm. Bonus specials on other nights include Sundays for $3.25 Jameson & Mondays for buck a shuck oysters from Oyster Boy.
Duke pubs – various downtown locations (Annex, First Canadian Place, Eaton Centre – see link for addresses)
It’s Friday so why not start the weekend with a boozy lunch! The Duke pubs offer half price bottles of wine every day from 11am-4pm. Offer stands as long as you place your order by 4pm so you can also make this your reason to leave work at a reasonable hour.
Nota Bene – 180 Queen St W
This is definitely your best bet on a Saturday night! After 9pm, you can bring your own bottle of wine with no corkage fee. Great option if you’ve been saving a special bottle and/or want a high end dining experience that doesn’t break the bank.
Edulis – 169 Niagara St.
$40 price fixe lunch menu plus half price on all bottles of wine can make for a nice lazy Sunday lunch at this tiny husband and wife run spot with more accolades than I can mention. The only trick is getting a table since online reservations always seem to be booked 2 months in advance. Try calling a few days before and sometimes even on the day, you can get a last minute table. Crowd tends to be older.
